Trio of Thai Gilt Polychrome Fabric Paintings of Traditional Scenes - Used Condition
Description
This lot comprises three Thai paintings executed in polychrome pigments with metallic gilt highlights on a dark fabric ground. The panels are mounted onto heavy cream-coloured paper cards. The first painting illustrates a mythological combat scene from the Ramakien, featuring the monkey general Hanuman engaging a yaksha on a chariot. The second panel depicts a large-scale battle scene with multiple war elephants and soldiers in traditional military costume. The third painting, presented in a black and gold-toned frame, portrays a royal barge on a river with temple spires, including a central prang reminiscent of Wat Arun, set against traditional clouds.
