An H. J. Wood Ltd. Indian Tree Pattern Relief-Moulded Earthenware Vase
Description
A mid-20th-century Staffordshire earthenware vase produced by H. J. Wood Ltd. at the Alexandra Pottery, Burslem. The baluster-form body is decorated in the Indian Tree pattern with high-relief, hand-painted floral motifs including maroon and yellow blooms among green foliage and dark brown branches, set against a textured, pale yellow-glazed ground. The neck is finished with a moulded geometric fretwork collar under a dark brown rim. The base is incised with the shape number 573 and bears hand-painted marks in red (1769) and black script reading Indian-Tree Handpainted H. J. Wood Staffordshire England.
Condition report:
The vase displays fine overall crazing to the glaze, consistent with its age and material. There is minor shelf wear to the foot rim and some accumulated surface dust. No chips, cracks, or visible signs of restoration are noted.
