Art Deco Style Shell Cameo and Marcasite Silver Tone Bar Brooch
Description
A vintage bar brooch featuring a centrally set oval shell cameo. The hand-carved cameo depicts a classical female profile facing left and is mounted within a rectangular frame with notched corners. This central motif transitions into an elongated, openwork bar decorated with scrolled and geometric designs characteristic of the Art Deco period. The entire front surface of the setting is pavé-set with numerous small, faceted marcasite stones. The brooch is crafted from silver-toned metal and is fitted with a horizontal hinged pin and a rollover safety catch on the reverse. Small stamped marks are present on the reverse of the brooch body and on the pin itself; however, these marks are not clearly legible for definitive identification of the maker or metal fineness.
Condition report:
The brooch is in good vintage condition. The shell cameo displays clear definition with no obvious chips or cracks. The silver-toned metal exhibits a natural patina and tarnish consistent with its age. While the marcasite stones appear to be mostly present, as is common with jewellery of this type and age, a few stones may be missing. The pin mechanism and rollover safety catch are in functional condition.
