A 1938 Sterling Silver British Air Raid Precautions (ARP) Lapel Badge by Marples & Beasley
Description
A sterling silver British Air Raid Precautions (ARP) service lapel badge, manufactured by Marples & Beasley of Birmingham. The design features a Tudor (King’s) Crown surmounting a shield-shaped plaque with raised A.R.P. lettering. The reverse retains its original crescent-shaped buttonhole fitting and is stamped in two lines with the manufacturer’s name MARPLES & BEASLEY and BIRMINGHAM. A full set of British hallmarks is struck on the front to the right of the lettering, comprising the maker’s mark M&B for Marples & Beasley, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter o corresponding to 1938.
Condition report:
The badge is in good vintage condition, displaying a natural aged patina and minor surface wear consistent with age and use. The crescent buttonhole fitting to the reverse remains intact.
