A Collection of Maritime Souvenirs and Natural History Specimens including a Polished Turban Shell and Shell Jewellery
Description
A collection of natural history specimens and maritime-themed items. The primary piece is a large Green Turban shell (Turbo marmoratus) that has been professionally polished to reveal its iridescent nacreous layer. This worked specimen features four rectangular apertures cut into the body whorl and retains its original large calcareous operculum. The collection also includes a long necklace crafted from small spiral gastropod shells interspersed with larger white cowrie shells. A clear glass storage jar with a white lid contains a variety of white bivalve shells, accompanied by several additional loose specimens.
Turban shell length: approximately 11 cm
Necklace length: approximately 72 cm.
Condition report:
The collection is in good condition. The large turban shell is a worked piece with intentional modifications. Minor surface abrasions and natural variations are present throughout the specimens, consistent with age and use as decorative souvenirs.
