Henri Bequet Quaregnon Belgian Art Pottery Relief Decorated Trumpet Vase
Description
A large Henri Bequet (Belgium) art pottery vase of flared trumpet form with a waisted body and tapered footed base. The earthenware body is finished with a matte, textured dark green ground, heavily decorated with hand-painted, high-relief barbotine floral and foliate motifs in a palette of pink, red, orange, and white. These relief elements are bordered by rows of raised yellow slip dots. The lower section of the vase features a contrasting sea-green ground decorated with vertical sgraffito-style white lines, separated from the main body by a raised, gilded band. The interior is finished with a simple cream-coloured glaze. The base bears a printed mark in brown ink within a scalloped border reading H. B. QUAREGNON BELGIUM.
Height: approximately 34 cm.
Condition report:
The vase is in generally good condition. There are minor nicks, small chips, and flea bites to the upper rim, along with visible wear to the gilded edges on the rim and central band. The interior shows dark spotting and minor staining to the bottom consistent with previous use. There is general shelf wear to the unglazed foot ring.
