Lot 142:
Victorian Style Cast Iron and Slatted Wood Garden Bench with Rose Vine Motif
Description
A vintage garden bench featuring decorative cast iron ends and a central backrest panel. The side supports are cast with scrolling foliate and fleur-de-lis motifs, finished in an aged light green paint. The backrest contains a rectangular openwork cast metal panel depicting a climbing rose vine design; the stems are painted green while the flower heads are finished in a silver-grey tone. The seat and backrest are constructed from six horizontal wooden slats bolted to the cast iron frame. The design is characteristic of late 19th or early 20th-century garden furniture. No maker’s marks or stamps were identified during inspection.
Condition report:
The bench is in a heavily weathered condition and is sold as found. The painted metalwork exhibits significant flaking, chipping, and surface oxidation throughout. The wooden slats are aged with a dark grey-brown patina, showing surface degradation and traces of moss growth. One slat on the backrest shows significant decay at the edge. The item requires full restoration.
