Description
A modern decorative figure of the Egyptian goddess Bastet, depicted as a seated cat. The piece is constructed from black cast resin, finished to simulate polished stone. The cat is shown in a formal seated pose with upright ears and features an incised pectoral collar around the neck. It is mounted upon a rectangular plinth with a rounded front edge. The surface of the plinth is decorated with various incised characters in the Egyptian style. A hand-incised inscription in Arabic script is located on the lower right flank of the cat, reading Isis above the character h. Both shoulders are further decorated with incised cartouches; one contains an ankh symbol above a circular sign, while the reverse shoulder shows two vertical circular marks. The underside of the base displays a granular greyish texture with visible linear grinding marks and small casting pinholes.
