Arita Porcelain Blue and White Floral Bowls and Decorated Chopsticks
Not sold
Description
This lot comprises a matching pair of Japanese porcelain bowls and two pairs of decorated bamboo chopsticks. The circular bowls are decorated in the Sometsuke style with underglaze blue floral motifs. The exterior of each bowl features large peony blossoms within scrolling foliate grounds and ruyi-shaped panels. The interiors are finished with a repeating floral border at the rim and a central composition of chrysanthemums and butterflies. Each bowl features a double-ring foot; one bowl is marked with three underglaze blue characters reading 有田焼 (Arita-yaki), and the other with two characters reading 有田 (Arita). The light-coloured chopsticks are printed at the upper ends with red and green floral designs. One pair is inscribed with the red characters 龍鳳呈祥 (Lóng fèng chéng xiáng), and the other pair with 百年好合 (Bǎi nián hǎo hé).
