Description

This lot comprises a pair of traditional Indian style bangles, often referred to as Gajulu or Kangan. The bangles are constructed from gold-tone metal with a heavily ornate repoussé finish. Each piece features stylized Makara mythical sea-creature terminals at the closure, flanking a central clasp set with a faceted red stone. The outer circumference of the bands is intricately decorated with multiple rows of cream-coloured seed pearls, which are secured to the frame with fine wire passed through visible perforations on the inner band. The bangles utilize a traditional screw-pin locking mechanism, where a threaded pin with a decorative gold-tone head unscrews to allow the hinged frame to open. The interior of the bands shows a darker base metal where the gold finish has worn.

Diameter: Approximately 6 cm.

Condition report:

The bangles are in used condition. There is significant loss to the gold plating on high points and visible tarnish to the metalwork.
