Lot 67:
Mexican Folk Art Hand-Painted Amate Bark Paintings - Very Good Condition
Sold for: £8
Description
This lot comprises two hand-painted Mexican folk art paintings executed on traditional Amate bark paper. Each composition depicts a central stylized bird and a quadruped figure—one resembling a deer with antlers and the other a canine with an extended tongue—set within a dense arrangement of colourful floral and foliate motifs. The artworks are rendered in vibrant pigments including red, blue, yellow, and green, utilising the natural, fibrous texture of the brown bark paper as a decorative ground. Both paintings are presented in matching light-toned wooden frames behind glass. The reverse of one frame features a printed purple ink stamp in an oval cartouche containing the legible text SYDNEY and BRISBANE; the remainder of the stamp is not clearly legible.
Condition report:
The paintings are in very good condition.
