Description
An Arthur Wood ceramic tankard featuring a maritime theme. The earthenware vessel is designed with a tapered cylindrical body finished in a honey-brown glaze, decorated with a black transfer-printed scene depicting two sailing ships. The rim, interior, flared foot, and handle are coated in a contrasting dark brown lustrous glaze. The two-tone decoration provides a striking contrast between the ochre-toned body and the deep brown accents. The printed maritime scene is rendered in fine black lines, showing vessels under full sail on a choppy sea with stylised cloud formations above. The tankard stands on a slightly flared base, and the loop handle is ergonomic in design. The interior is fully glazed in the same dark tone as the exterior trim, providing a clean finish. This English earthenware piece is a notable example of Arthur Wood production.
