Lot 129:
Pair of Italian Rococo Revival Ornate Metal Miniature Wall Hangings
Sold for: £4
Description
A pair of decorative miniature wall hangings of Italian origin. Each piece features an ornate, openwork metal frame cast in the Rococo-revival style, characterised by elaborate C-scrolls, volutes, and foliate motifs with a dark antiqued patina. The frames enclose oval textile panels depicting pastoral “fête galante” scenes in the 18th-century French manner, showing figures in period dress within wooded landscape settings. The reverse of each frame is fitted with a fiberboard backing held in place by metal tabs. The metal frames are embossed at the base with the country of origin, Made in Italy. One hanging retains a circular suspension ring, while the other retains the eyelet only.
