Victorian Style Mahogany Stained Red Upholstered Telephone Bench - Used Condition
Description
A Victorian-style telephone bench, also known as a gossip chair, featuring a mahogany-stained wood frame and red upholstery. The piece incorporates a single-person seat joined to an integrated side table unit. The chair features a high, rounded back with deep button tufting, crowned by a carved shell and scrollwork cresting. The upholstery has a corduroy texture, finished with a continuous line of decorative brass-headed upholstery tacks along the edges. The side table has a rectangular top and a single drawer with a deeply carved foliate and scroll pattern on the face, fitted with a silver-toned circular knob. The construction is consistent with a mid-20th-century reproduction. The entire unit is supported on four cabriole legs. The reverse of the seat back is finished with a matching fabric panel secured by upholstery studs.
