Otagiri Ceramic Anthropomorphic Rabbit Storage Jar
Description
An Otagiri glazed ceramic storage jar modelled as an anthropomorphic rabbit character. The figure is depicted standing, wearing a wide-brimmed textured straw hat and a lavender-coloured dress featuring a repeating four-petal floral motif and a large relief-moulded bow to the reverse. The rabbit holds a large orange carrot with green foliage. The piece is of two-part construction, comprising a hollow base and a lift-off lid formed by the head and upper shoulders. Hand-painted and transfer-printed decoration throughout. Produced in Japan.
Condition report:
The jar is in good overall condition. There is minor chipping and roughness to the unglazed inner flange of the base section where the lid rests. Small dark firing inclusions and specks are visible within the interior glaze of the base. The exterior glaze and polychrome decoration remain vibrant with no significant cracks or repairs noted.
