Lot 10:
Two Sterling Silver Trench Art Coin Rings. 13.48g
Description
Two sterling silver rings individually handcrafted in the trench art style from silver coinage. The first ring features a band fashioned from a British coin, bearing portions of the exterior legend EDWARDVS VII BRITT REX. The face of the ring has an applied heraldic crest featuring a shield with a red and white checkered enamel pattern, surmounted by a bird of prey with wings outspread and foliate scrolls. The second ring is constructed from a 1937 South African three-pence coin soldered to a band fashioned from a 1940 South African coin. The face of the coin is inscribed 1937 SUID AFRIKA and 3D with a central protea motif. The band retains partial inscriptions including GEORGIVS on the interior and 1940 RICA on the exterior. Both pieces exhibit characteristic tool marks and visible solder joins associated with soldier-made jewellery.
Total Weight: 13.48g.
Condition report:
Both rings exhibit significant surface wear and heavy tarnish throughout, consistent with age and folk-art construction. The enameled heraldic crest shows minor pitting and surface scratches. Details on the coinage, particularly the 1937 coin face, show smoothing from use. Solder joins are functional.
