Lot 63:
A Collection of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec Art Postcards
Description
A collection of printed art postcards featuring works by the French Post-Impressionist artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901). The cards consist of late 20th-century reproductions on medium-weight cardstock, depicting various subjects synonymous with the artist’s oeuvre, such as Parisian cafe society, cabaret dancers, and intimate domestic scenes. Recognisable works in the group include Le Lit (The Bed), At the Moulin Rouge: The Dance, The Gueule de Bois (The Hangover), and The Clownesse Cha-U-Kao. Several examples possess serrated or perforated edges on one side, identifying them as having been detached from a bound postcard book or set. The card for At the Moulin Rouge: The Dance includes the artist’s printed monogram HTL in a red circle. Some of the postcards are housed in clear plastic protective sleeves.
Condition report:
The postcards are in generally good condition. There is evidence of light handling and minor shelf wear to the edges and corners of the loose cards. The serrated edges are a result of the original removal process from a perforated booklet. No significant creasing, heavy foxing, or tears are visible.
