Price & Kensington Treacle-Glazed Teddy Bear Biscuit Jar
Description
A vintage relief-moulded earthenware biscuit jar manufactured by Price & Kensington, Staffordshire. The vessel is designed in the form of a seated anthropomorphic teddy bear wearing a polka-dot bow tie and cradling a smaller bear cub in its left arm. The lower front section features the word BISCUITS embossed in relief. The entire piece is finished in a rich, mottled brown treacle glaze, also referred to as a Rockingham-style glaze. The bear’s head serves as a removable lid. The underside of the base is incised with the maker’s mark P & K. and the phrase MADE IN ENGLAND following the curve of the foot rim.
Condition report:
The item is in good vintage condition. A small chip is present on the unglazed foot rim of the base. There is light surface scratching and shelf wear to the underside consistent with age and use. No cracks, major chips to the glazed surfaces, or visible repairs are noted.
