An Assortment of Vintage Ceramic Figural Money Boxes and a Lithographed Souvenir Tin
Description
An assortment of money boxes, comprising three ceramic figural examples and a lithographed metal souvenir tin. The collection includes a pair of glazed ceramic figures modelled as an elderly man and woman, each holding a sign inscribed RETIREMENT FUND. The male figure is depicted in a green-patterned jacket with spectacles, while the female figure wears a pink floral dress and white hat; both feature applied white yarn hair and black rubber base stoppers. Also present is a larger figural ceramic money box finished in a matte-to-satin glaze, depicting a woman in a headscarf, green top, and white apron accompanied by a cow, holding a separate miniature galvanised metal bucket with a wire handle. The group is completed by a rectangular lithographed tin money box titled THE EXCELSIOR, featuring a blue-coloured lid with a coin slot and decorated with a high-rise building facade.
Condition report:
The ceramic figures show general signs of age and handling, including minor surface soiling and small areas of paint loss. Fine crazing is visible to the glaze of the female Retirement Fund figure, particularly on the hat. The applied yarn hair displays some fraying. All ceramic items retain their original base stoppers. The metal tin exhibits typical surface wear including minor scratches, small dents, and light oxidation along the rims of the lid and base. The lithographed decoration remains largely clear.
